“Serologist Brian Wraxall of the Serological Research Institute in Emeryville, Calif., near San Francisco recently worked on such a case. His lab tests helped to free a Wisconsin man wrongfully imprisoned for eight years on a rape conviction.<\/p>\n

‘I would imagine there are probably some people in jail who shouldn’t be,’ he said. ‘It’s hard to put figures on it.'”<\/p>\n

“‘The majority of the lawyers who come in contact with us are not familiar with it. I find that every new attorney who contacts me doesn’t know anything about this stuff,’ said Wraxall. ‘I find that I have to educate them in terms of what it means and what it doesn’t mean.'”<\/p>\n

“‘I find it a little frustrating,’ said Wraxall, referring to being questioned on the stand by uninformed attorneys. ‘You come away thinking that the points he wanted to make, he didn’t make clear enough. The attorney just can’t put you on the stand and let you run off.'”<\/p>\n

“Said Wraxall, ‘My opinion is that the tests should be done in every rape case.'”<\/p>\n
