“On Monday, the prosecution’s main witness was Gary Harmor, co-founder of the laboratory that did the state’s DNA tests in the Link case. Harmor, a forensic serologist, described PCR testing, in which a tiny amount of genetic material is put in an enzyme ‘cocktail’ and heated.
Heating, then cooling, the mixture causes the DNA to replicate, Harmor testified. After many such cycles, typically 32, enough DNA is produced in the laboratory to conduct various forensic tests, he said.”
